In a renewed effort to ensure smooth traffic flow and enhanced security during the upcoming festive season, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Nigeria Police Force have pledged to work closely to eliminate gridlock and maintain law and order at the First and Second Niger Bridges.
The commitment was made during a courtesy visit by the Sector Commander, FRSC Delta State Command, Corps Commander Joyce N. Alexander, to the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, on Monday, October 14, 2025, at the State Police Headquarters, Asaba.
Speaking during the visit, Corps Commander Alexander said the collaboration was crucial as the yuletide period typically witnesses a surge in vehicular movement across the bridges connecting Delta and Anambra States.
She emphasized that both agencies were determined to ensure free traffic flow, prevent road crashes, and safeguard commuters throughout the festive period.
“Our joint deployment will focus on proactive traffic management and ensuring the security of travelers along the Niger Bridge corridors,” Alexander said.
“We are fully committed to working with the Police to make this year’s yuletide one of the safest and most orderly in recent years.”
On his part, CP Abaniwonda commended the FRSC for its consistent partnership and assured that the Police would provide full support, including the deployment of armed personnel to strategic points along the highways and bridge approaches.
He noted that the synergy between the two agencies would help deter criminal activities and strengthen public confidence during the high-travel period.
The meeting also highlighted plans for joint patrols, improved emergency response coordination, and public enlightenment campaigns targeted at educating motorists on safe driving and compliance with traffic rules.
Both leaders expressed optimism that the sustained collaboration between the FRSC and the Nigeria Police Force would not only ease the perennial yuletide gridlock but also enhance safety, security, and convenience for road users across Delta and neighbouring states.
