An explosion rocked the Trans-Niger Pipeline in Bodo, Gokana Local Government Area of Rivers State on Monday night, triggering a massive inferno.
The cause of the blast remains unknown, though investigations are currently underway.
The affected section of the pipeline, a vital crude oil export route to the Bonny Terminal, has gone up in flames, sparking concerns about potential disruption to Nigeria’s oil output.
Authorities have yet to confirm whether sabotage was involved, but the possibility of militant activity is being explored, especially in light of recent threats targeting oil infrastructure.
These threats coincide with rising political tensions in Rivers State, where Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his predecessor, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, are locked in a heated struggle for political dominance.
It would be recall that some faceless people heavily armed claiming to be Ijaws have allegedly threatened to destroy oil installations in Rivers State over the ongoing political crisis in the State.
