The Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) has reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, pledging sustained support for bold reforms, economic revitalization, and inclusive governance across Nigeria.
This resolution was contained in a communiqué issued at the conclusion of the PGF’s two-day strategic retreat held in Benin City, Edo State, from June 27 to 28, 2025.
Signed by PGF Chairman and Governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodimma, the document detailed far-reaching discussions on Nigeria’s socio-economic direction, emphasizing the central role of subnational governments in driving national transformation.
Among the key moments of the retreat was the formal reception of Akwa Ibom State Governor, His Excellency Pastor Umo Eno, into the APC fold.
His defection was welcomed as a major milestone by the Forum, which described it as a testament to the growing national consensus around people-centered governance and strategic political alignment for development.
The PGF congratulated President Tinubu on the widespread endorsement of his leadership, applauding the growing synergy between federal and state institutions in areas such as fiscal reform, food security, infrastructure modernization, and energy transition.
The governors acknowledged early gains from critical macroeconomic policies, including fuel subsidy removal and exchange rate unification.
They, however, emphasized the urgent need to translate these gains into widespread impact through targeted investments in job creation, poverty eradication, MSME support, and food security.
Reaffirming their constitutional mandate to promote the welfare of citizens, the PGF declared its commitment to deepening economic decentralization and leveraging increased fiscal transfers to states to stimulate local economies and attract private sector investments.
The Forum also recognized significant strides in governance reforms, including the digitalization of public service delivery, professionalized procurement processes, and improved regulatory frameworks.
Governors pledged to build on this momentum to drive inter-state competitiveness and deliver productivity-enhancing infrastructure.
Commending the efforts of Nigeria’s security agencies, the governors pledged continued support for community policing, intelligence gathering, and surveillance systems.
They also extended condolences to families affected by insecurity, particularly in Benue and Niger States, and reiterated their full support for the President’s decisive security measures.
The Forum called for renewed focus on strengthening local government institutions and community structures to enhance service delivery and deepen democratic participation.
On party affairs, the PGF highlighted the influx of new members, including governors, National Assembly members, and other stakeholders, into the APC as a clear sign of rising confidence in the party’s vision and leadership.
The Forum also acknowledged the recent resignation of APC National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, as a reflection of the party’s evolving internal reform process.
Looking to the future, the PGF reaffirmed its shared belief in a united, just, and prosperous Nigeria.
The governors committed to working closely with President Tinubu to accelerate reform implementation, strengthen institutional trust, and deliver inclusive growth.
They urged Nigerians, at home and in the diaspora, to continue supporting the APC and President Tinubu in the collective effort to build a more secure, equitable, and forward-looking nation.
