Godwin Obaseki of Edo State said the suit challenging his certificate was “most needless”, attempt by desperate individuals trying to undo the will of the people through the backdoor.
The Edo State governor on Saturday 9th January 2021, took to his Facebook page shortly after the judgement to express the joy of the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) and the people of Edo State.
He appreciated the judiciary for truly been the last hope of the common Man by standing up for the truth.
While noting that the judgement was well-received, he appreciated President Muhammadu Buhari, his party and leaders for the support.
Said he: “The verdict of the Federal High Court, delivered by Honourable Justice Ahmed Mohammed on the allegation of certificate forgery is well-received and a victory for the rule of law.
“The suit was a most needless attempt by desperate individuals trying to undo the will of the people through the backdoor but we are happy today that justice and truth have prevailed.
“My profound gratitude goes to the judiciary who have stood indefatigably for truth and justice; the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari (GCFR); my party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP); our party leaders and members; my teeming supporters; the good people of Edo State and all Nigerians”.
Meanwhile, the presidential candidate of the PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, has congratulated the Edo State governor for the victory.
“I congratulate Governor Obaseki for his victory in the frivolous suit brought against him for certificate forgery.
“Kudos to our great party, and the good people of Edo State for standing firmly by the governor, and protecting their electoral mandate from being torpedoed by anti-democratic forces”, he said.
