The Delta Online Publishers Forum (DOPF) has announced that its 2025 Convention and Annual Lecture will hold in Asaba, Delta State, from Wednesday, November 26 to Thursday, November 27, 2025.
According to a statement signed by Abel Johngold and Josephine Idiovwan Omodior, Chairman and Secretary of the 2025 Planning Committee, the two-day event will combine induction, training, and high-level policy dialogue.
The opening day will feature the induction of new members and a capacity-building training session for members and media practitioners, while the second day will spotlight the Annual Lecture.
This year’s lecture, themed “Nigeria’s New Tax Law: Implications and Opportunities for Businesses and Society,” comes at a critical time as the new legislation takes effect on January 1, 2026.
Comprehensive Reform in Focus
The Forum noted that Nigeria’s tax framework has undergone several reforms over the decades, from the Petroleum Profits Tax Act of 1959 and the Companies Income Tax Act of 1961 to the introduction of Value Added Tax in 1993.
However, the new law is regarded as one of the most far-reaching changes yet, designed to simplify tax processes, plug revenue leakages, and promote transparency in public finance.
“This year’s theme reflects the need for open discussion on how the new law will reshape Nigeria’s fiscal landscape. It will give stakeholders the opportunity to examine both the opportunities and challenges the legislation presents,” the statement read.
Dialogue for Growth and Accountability
DOPF emphasized that the lecture will not only assess the law’s implications for businesses but also spark conversation on fairness in taxation, government accountability, and effective deployment of revenues for infrastructure and social development.
The Forum described the conversation as timely, given Nigeria’s urgent need to diversify its revenue base and strengthen fiscal stability.
Distinguished Speakers, Broad Participation
As in previous editions, the Annual Lecture will feature a keynote speaker with notable expertise in fiscal and economic policy, supported by a panel of discussants from government agencies, professional associations, civil society, and the private sector.
Their contributions are expected to offer practical guidance on implementing the tax reforms while balancing business competitiveness and social equity.
Commitment to Media Development
The Planning Committee also stressed that this year’s programme reflects DOPF’s dual commitment to professional growth within the media sector and contribution to national policy debates.
“By integrating member induction, training, and the Annual Lecture, we are strengthening knowledge sharing, informed debate, and capacity building.
“This aligns with our mission to support the growth of media practitioners while fostering dialogue on key national issues,” the statement added.
The 2025 Convention is expected to attract wide participation from journalists, policymakers, business leaders, and civil society actors, making it a major platform for examining one of Nigeria’s most significant fiscal reforms in decades.
