…as Oborevwori set to visit Germany for strategic talks with Julius Berger
The Delta State Government has announced plans to commence a comprehensive empowerment programme across the 25 local government areas ahead of the presentation of the 2026 budget, estimated at ₦1.5 trillion.
Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, disclosed this on Monday October 20, 2025, during a press briefing in Asaba, the State capital.
He stated that the empowerment initiative is part of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s commitment to inclusive governance and sustainable livelihoods.
According to Aniagwu, the forthcoming budget will place strong emphasis on capital projects, social welfare, and empowerment initiatives designed to enhance productivity and reduce poverty across the state.
Aniagwu was flanked by the Chief Press Secretary (CPS), to the Governor, Olorogun Sir. Festus Ahon and the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Public Enlightenment, Projects and Policies, Mr. Olisa Ifeajika.
He said: “His Excellency has directed that all empowerment programmes must be transparent, inclusive, and evenly distributed across all local government areas,” Aniagwu said.
“The initiative will be coordinated by key ministries and agencies to ensure that beneficiaries receive meaningful support that can transform their economic well-being.”
The Commissioner explained that the empowerment drive aligns with the administration’s broader development agenda, which also includes major infrastructural investments and international partnerships to secure better project terms for the state.
He revealed that Governor Oborevwori will, on Tuesday, depart for Germany on an official working visit to Julius Berger headquarters to strengthen the existing partnership with the construction giant and negotiate improved technical and financial collaboration.
“The visit is not for leisure but part of our effort to deepen cooperation with Julius Berger to ensure greater cost efficiency and value for money in project execution,” Aniagwu emphasized.
Highlighting recent infrastructural milestones, he recalled the success of previous international engagements, which led to major contracts such as the ₦59 billion Agbor flyover and the ₦39 billion Otovwodo Junction, Ughelli flyover on the Warri–Patani Expressway.
Aniagwu also disclosed that the state government would, in the coming weeks, perform groundbreaking ceremonies for new projects worth billions of naira, further demonstrating the Oborevwori administration’s resolve to maintain momentum in infrastructure and empowerment delivery.
He reaffirmed that governance in Delta would continue uninterrupted, assuring that contractors have been directed to sustain progress on all ongoing projects despite political timelines.
