The Delta State Police Command has intensified security operations across the state ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebrations, assuring residents of a peaceful and hitch-free festive season.
As part of measures to guarantee public safety, the Commissioner of Police has approved the massive deployment of personnel before, during and after the Yuletide.
The operation is aimed at protecting lives and property, securing public spaces and ensuring the smooth conduct of festivities across the state.
Under the directive, Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and Tactical Commanders have been tasked with deploying officers to major celebration venues, recreational centres and other public locations to forestall criminal activities.
Special patrol teams drawn from Dragon Patrol, Safer Highways, Quick Response Squad, Rapid Response Squad, CP-SAT and the Eagle-Net Special Squad have been strategically positioned along major highways and key routes within the state.
These deployments cover critical corridors including the Asaba–Onitsha Head Bridge, Asaba–Agbor Expressway, Asaba–Kwale/Ughelli Road, Abraka–Eku Road, PTI axis and the DSC Roundabout. Additional patrols have been mounted along the Abraka, Eku and Ughelli express roads, with officers drawn from Abraka, Ughelli and Sapele Divisions.
Within the Asaba metropolis, heavy police presence has been established at identified flashpoints such as Summit Junction, Inter-Bau Roundabout, Federal Medical Centre Roundabout, Ogbe-Ogonogo Market, Government House Gate, Ibusa Junction by Nnebisi Road, Airport Junction and other high-traffic locations.
To address traffic challenges during the festive rush, police personnel and traffic wardens have been deployed to the Asaba–Onitsha Head Bridge strictly for traffic control.
The DPOs of ‘B’ and ‘C’ Divisions, Asaba, alongside the State Traffic Officer, are coordinating with other security agencies to ensure free flow of traffic and effective supervision.
Similar directives have been issued to the DPOs of Ekpan and Ebrumede Divisions to maintain security and traffic control in Warri, Effurun and adjoining areas, particularly around the busy DSC and Effurun roundabouts.
The Command has also strengthened security along the waterways, with Marine Police operatives deployed to curb the activities of sea pirates and illegal bunkerers.
Special attention is being given to the Escravos, Burutu and Warri waterways to safeguard traders and travellers.
In further demonstration of police readiness, the Commissioner of Police has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, to sustain a continuous Operation Show of Force across the state throughout the festive period.
The Delta State Police Command has urged residents to remain law-abiding and to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely information.
The Command reassured the public of its unwavering commitment to maintaining law and order and protecting lives and property during the Yuletide and beyond.
