Delta Police Disrupt Armed Robbery Syndicate In Ughelli Amid Ongoing Concerns Over Crime

The Delta State Police Command has reported a significant breakthrough in its efforts to combat violent crime, following an intelligence-led raid that resulted in the arrest of two suspects and the recovery of dangerous firearms and ammunition in Ughelli North Local Government Area.

However, the incident raises ongoing concerns about the persistent threat of criminal activity in the region.

On December 28, 2025, operatives from the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), led by ASP Julius Robinson, executed a well-coordinated raid on a suspected criminal hideout in the Otorwhodo area.

The operation culminated in the arrest of 24-year-old Moses Tejiri, while other gang members managed to escape.

Authorities recovered a long Dane gun, two locally fabricated Beretta pistols, and 21 rounds of live ammunition.

Despite this operational success, the emergence of such armed robbery syndicates continues to pose severe challenges for law enforcement in Delta State.

The police reported that Tejiri admitted to participating in multiple robbery incidents throughout Ughelli, indicating an ongoing pattern of violence and disregard for public safety.

“The successful arrest is commendable; however, we must remain cautious about the apparent increase in armed robberies in the area,” said a local resident, highlighting the community’s ongoing fears.

In a separate incident on December 29, police apprehended Isu Emmanuel, accused of illegally selling controlled drugs without a prescription in a hotel along the Okpanam Road.

During this operation, authorities confiscated 28 sachets of tramadol and other prohibited drugs, further underscoring the multifaceted nature of crime affecting the region.

The Delta State Police Command remains committed to implementing intelligence-driven strategies to combat crime, including targeted raids and regular patrols.

SP Bright Edafe, the Police Public Relations Officer, called on citizens to support police efforts by providing timely information regarding criminal activities.

“While these operations demonstrate progress, citizen involvement is crucial in sustaining safety in our communities,” Edafe stated.

However, community leaders express skepticism regarding the effectiveness of current strategies.

“We have seen numerous arrests, yet the frequency of these crimes continues to rise,” remarked a community spokesperson.

“The police must focus not just on enforcement but also on addressing the underlying issues that lead to such criminal behavior.”

As the Delta State Police Command reassures residents of their fight against crime, the community remains watchful, grappling with concerns about safety and the need for more comprehensive solutions to ensure a secure environment for all.
