In a proactive move to strengthen security ahead of the festive season, the Delta State Police Command has engaged members of the Bankers Forum in a strategic security meeting to address safety concerns in the banking sector during the ember months.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, in a statement issued from Asaba, on Tuesday September 23, 2025, said the meeting was convened by the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, on Tuesday, September 23, 2025.

The forum had in attendance the Chief Security Officer of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Asaba branch, Mrs. Evangeline Patrick, alongside thirty-nine heads of banks across the state.

Represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, CP Abaniwonda emphasized the need for financial institutions to adopt advanced security measures in anticipation of the increased movement of people and potential rise in criminal activities associated with the season.

He stressed that given Delta’s strategic location with borders to Edo and other neighboring states, proactive strategies were vital.

He urged banks to ensure the installation of functional CCTV systems to complement police efforts in surveillance and crime prevention.

In her remarks, Mrs. Patrick commended the Command for the initiative, adding that the CBN maintains a strict policy of not releasing cash to banks that fail to provide adequate armed police escorts during specie movements.

DCP Adejobi further reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to fighting crime and criminality across the state, describing the engagement with the banking sector as “just a tip of the iceberg” in ongoing proactive measures to ensure a crime-free yuletide season.
