The Delta State Police Command has recorded major breakthroughs in its ongoing offensive against crime and illicit drugs, arresting a notorious drug dealer and intercepting 400 live cartridges during separate intelligence-led operations across the state.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the Command said the operations were part of its sustained efforts under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, to rid the state of criminal elements through proactive and intelligence-driven policing.
Suspect Arrested with 400 Live Cartridges
According to the statement, on October 16, 2025, operatives of the ‘C’ Division, Asaba, led by CSP Ogbe Emmanuel, intercepted a Toyota Hiace Hummer bus with registration number NGK 16 XB during a stop-and-search operation at the Head Bridge, Asaba.
The driver, identified as Ozoemenam Sylvanus, reportedly appeared uneasy during interrogation, prompting officers to conduct a thorough search of the vehicle. Their vigilance paid off as 400 live cartridges were discovered carefully concealed within the bus.
The suspect allegedly claimed the parcels contained padlocks but was left speechless when the ammunition was uncovered. He was immediately arrested, and the exhibit recovered.
Police investigations are ongoing to trace the source and network behind the illegal arms movement reportedly bound for Edo State.
Notorious Drug Dealer Nabbed in Jeddo
In a separate operation on October 10, 2025, operatives of the Orerokpe Division, acting on credible intelligence, arrested a suspected drug baron, Onos Afokoghene (37), notorious for distributing hard drugs within Warri and its environs.
The Divisional Police Officer, CSP Paul Oboware, led a swift raid on a known flashpoint in Jeddo Community where Afokoghene and others were allegedly selling and consuming illicit substances.
On sighting the police, the suspects attempted to flee, but Afokoghene was apprehended after a brief pursuit.
A search of the area led to the recovery of various illicit substances and equipment used in drug sales, including 3kg of Canadian Loud, 10kg of Indian Hemp, 24 litres of “monkey tail” (Indian Hemp soaked in dry gin), several sachets of Tramadol of different milligrams, and two POS machines suspected to have been used for transactions.
The suspect is currently in custody as investigations continue to uncover his supply network and associates.
CP Abaniwonda Reiterates Commitment to Safety
While commending the operatives for their professionalism and vigilance, CP Abaniwonda reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to maintaining peace and security across Delta State.
“The safety and security of residents remain our top priority,” he stated. “We urge members of the public to continue partnering with the police by providing credible information that can help us prevent and combat crime in all its forms.”
The Commissioner also encouraged residents to remain law-abiding and report any suspicious movements or activities through the Command’s dedicated distress line: 08036684974.
