The Delta State Police Command has announced a series of coordinated breakthroughs in its ongoing crackdown on crime across Asaba and its environs, with multiple arrests and the recovery of firearms and illicit drugs in three separate operations.
In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, the police described the week-long operations as “a demonstration of intelligence-led policing and inter-agency collaboration that continues to yield tangible results in Delta State.”
Arrest of Suspected Armed Robber and Cultist in Asaba
On October 1, 2025, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) ‘B’ Division Asaba, CSP Edewor Akponegware, led a surveillance team in response to a distress call about a robbery near the BONSAAC area of Asaba.
According to the statement, a female victim had been robbed at gunpoint by two suspects who fled the scene. Working with local vigilantes, officers established a discreet cordon and swept adjoining streets, leading to the arrest of one suspect, Amara Nwako (male, 21), an indigene of Oko.
“A locally made pistol was recovered during a search of the area,” the police said. “Preliminary investigation indicates the suspect’s involvement with the Arobaga secret cult. A manhunt is ongoing for his fleeing accomplice.”
Eagle Net Squad Intercepts Major Illicit Drug Shipment
In another operation on October 2, 2025, operatives of the Eagle Net Special Squad (ENSS), led by SP Danyaya Yunusa, in collaboration with the Office of the Executive Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Illicit Drugs and Human Trafficking, intercepted a truck conveying large quantities of suspected illicit drugs.
The vehicle, a truck with registration number 3BGT 18LG, was driven by Dennis Uruma (52) of Igalamela LGA, Kogi State.
“A search of the truck uncovered a significant quantity of suspected illicit drugs,” the statement said. “The driver was arrested, and counting and measurement of exhibits are ongoing.”
RRS Arrests Armed Robbery Suspects, Recovers Fabricated Beretta Pistol
Similarly, on October 3, 2025, the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), led by CSP Nosa Alex, acting on credible intelligence, raided a suspected criminal hideout near the Basket Market area of Asaba.
The operation resulted in the arrest of three suspects: Rabbi Godwin (25), Lucky Nanakumo (20), and David Igwe (19). A search of the hideout led to the recovery of one fabricated Beretta pistol, which was secured as evidence.
“The suspects are in RRS custody as investigations continue to track down other gang members and recover additional weapons,” the police stated.
Command Reiterates Commitment to Public Safety
The Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, commended the officers for their professionalism and reaffirmed the Command’s zero tolerance for armed robbery, cultism, and drug trafficking.
“These successes underscore our renewed drive to dismantle criminal networks, recover weapons, and disrupt illicit drug supply chains,” CP Abaniwonda said.
“We urge residents to remain vigilant and share credible information to help us serve the public better. Together with community partners and relevant agencies, we will continue to make Delta State safer.”
The Delta State Police Command reassured the public that the suspects would be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
