COVID-19: 44 Defaulters Charged To Court In Anambra State

No fewer than 44 persons have been nabbed and arraigned before a mobile court for flouting Covid-19 protocols in Nnewi and its environs, Anambra south local government area of the state.

Anambra government through the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), on Monday 22nd February 2021, embarked on enforcement exercise on Covid-19.

The exercise was in collaboration with the State Ministry of Transport, the Nigerian Police Force, Anambra Traffic Management Agency (ATMA), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and OCHA Brigade, Anambra South Chapter.

Speaking before the exercise, the SSG, Professor Solo Chukwulobelu represented by the COVID-19 State Admin. Officer, Mr. Sunday Okafor, noted that it was duty bound to sensitize the people on the need to always have their facemask properly fitted on their face or face the possible punishment for the defaulters at the mobile court.

He stressed that Anambra state government led by Chief Willie Obiano, would not relent on her effort to curb the spread of the virus.

The SSG explained that government is not so much interested in the fines from defaulters nor their prison sentences, but most importantly wants all and sundry to comply with the COVID-19 protocols, especially wearing of facemask at public places.

The Zonal Commander OCHA Brigade, Anambra South District Mr. Emmanuel Obi, chided those that still disobey the directives of the government as he insisted that the government would continue to fight for the entire well being of her citizens.

On his part, the Coordinator COVID-19 Taskforce, Nnewi Zone, Mr. Chikeluba Ezefunamba beckoned on Anambra people to always go out with their facemask on, so as not force the government embark on another total lockdown due to the increase in spread of the virus.
