In a dramatic turn of events, the ongoing political feud between Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, and Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has intensified following the arrest of a medical doctor and pastor in Port Harcourt. Dr. Tombari Joseph Gbeneol, founder of Life Forte Chapel Church, stands accused of plotting to assassinate the former Rivers governor.
Security sources revealed to SaharaReporters that the Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) apprehended Dr. Gbeneol after intercepting a concerning telephone conversation with the immediate past Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Dr. Tammy Danagogo.
In the intercepted call, the two men allegedly discussed plans involving Israeli nationals to execute the assassination, culminating in a proposal to seek financial backing from Governor Fubara for the operation.
A senior security official described the conversation as “a grave national security threat,” prompting swift action from the IRT.
With guidance from Commissioner of Police Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, IRT operatives acted on the intelligence report and detained Gbeneol, who has reportedly been in custody for the past two weeks.
Additionally, efforts are underway to locate and arrest Dr. Danagogo, who has since gone underground following the revelation of the plot.
The Nigeria Police confirmed the development, stating that Dr. Gbeneol is currently in their custody and that investigations are ongoing.
Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, commented, “He is in our custody. Investigation is ongoing.”
Authorities, however, refrained from disclosing further details regarding the suspect’s identity or the specifics of the alleged offense, emphasizing that detectives are diligently working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the case and identify potential accomplices.
