Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister and former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has declared that there is nothing wrong with impeaching Governor Siminalayi Fubara if he has committed an impeachable offense.
Speaking during a media chat on Wednesday, Wike dismissed concerns over a potential impeachment, stating, “If he has done something to be impeached, let them impeach him. It’s not a criminal offence.”
Wike also expressed frustration over the ongoing political crisis in Rivers State, stressing the need to uphold the rule of law. He took a swipe at Fubara’s inner circle, warning that politics is not a game to be taken lightly.
His remarks come as the Martin Amaewhule-led Rivers Assembly issued a 48-hour ultimatum for Fubara to re-present the 2025 budget.
The directive follows a Supreme Court ruling by Justice Emmanuel Akomaye Agim, which ordered 27 lawmakers loyal to Wike to resume legislative duties immediately.
With tensions escalating, Wike’s latest comments signal continued hostility toward Fubara, fueling speculations about an impending showdown in the state’s political landscape.
