BREAKING NEWS: Umahi Backs Anioma’s Quest For Sixth South-East State
The Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, has openly declared his support for the agitation by the Anioma people for the creation of a sixth state in the South-East geopolitical zone.
Umahi made the declaration on Friday, January 16, 2025, while inspecting the pace of work at the bypass of the ongoing construction of the Second Niger Bridge in Asaba, the Delta State capital.
Speaking in his personal capacity as a leader from the South-East, the minister described the Anioma people as an integral part of the region, stressing the need for unity and collective support.
“Let me say here that I support the intention of the Anioma people for the sixth state of the South-East,” Umahi said.
“I say this in my own personal capacity as one of the leaders of the South-East.
“They are our brothers and sisters and we must support them.”
The minister’s remarks have sparked renewed national attention on the long-standing demand for an additional state in the South-East, as well as the political and regional implications of the Anioma movement.
Umahi’s endorsement, coming from a serving federal minister and prominent South-East leader, is expected to add significant momentum to the ongoing discourse on state creation and regional equity in Nigeria.
