Three months to the Edo State governorship election scheduled for September 21st 2024, the State chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has suspended its gubernatorial candidate, Azemhe Azena.
Azena was suspended by his Ward 10 executive members in Etsako East Local Government Area of the state.
This was just as the candidate described the development as fake and of no effect.
Azena’s suspension letter, dated June 3, 2024, was endorsed by the Ward 10 Chairman, Mr. Kadiri Eshimokha; the Woman Leader, Stella Afebua; the Youth Leader, Comrade Eshiobu Johnson; and the Ward Secretary, Comrade Imonikho Abdul.
According to the letter, Azena was suspended for alleged gross misconduct, anti-party activities, and disregard for the party.
Copies of the suspension letter were also sent to the National Chairman of the party, the Edo State Chairman, the Edo North Senatorial District Vice Chairman, the South-South Vice Chairman, the National Chairman of INEC, and the Edo State Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC).
The suspension notice was received by the State Chairman of the party on June 5, 2024.
Responding, Azena described the suspension as fake and of no effect.
He explained that the persons whose names appeared on the purported suspension letter are not from his ward.
“The authentic Ward 10 Chairman of NNPP, Etsako East Local Government chapter, is Goddy Iyamah. He has since refuted the claim.
“The letter purportedly written to suspend me is fake, and it is of no effect,” Azena emphasized.
