Governor Sim Fubara of Rivers State has acknowledged experiencing emotional distress due to the ongoing political turmoil in the state.
His statement comes in the wake of the state of emergency declared by President Bola Tinubu, which led to Fubara’s six-month suspension and the appointment of a sole administrator to oversee the state’s affairs.
The crisis stems from a prolonged power struggle between Fubara and his predecessor-turned-political rival, Nyesom Wike, now the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Speaking at his private residence while receiving Muslim faithful who visited him for Sallah, Fubara admitted the situation has been difficult but reaffirmed his commitment to peace and governance.
“We assumed that I might feel a bit depressed because of the situation, maybe because of what we are seeing but might not understand,” Fubara said. “But in everything, we have decided to give glory to the Almighty God.”
He urged his supporters to remain patient and not be provoked into actions that could escalate tensions in the state.
“What they want is to destroy this state, what they want is to create problems and deny you the means of livelihood that you have here. We will not allow it,” he assured.
Despite the political storm, Fubara pledged to continue respecting constituted authority and working toward maintaining Rivers State as a model for others across Nigeria.
