A late-night fire outbreak has gutted the 13 Police Mobile Force (PMF) Squadron office and armoury in Makurdi, the Benue State capital.
Sources confirmed that the inferno occurred in the early hours of Sunday, leaving the facility severely damaged.
Viral footage circulating on social media shows the Mopol 13 complex engulfed in raging flames, with the offices and armoury reportedly burnt to ashes.
The extent of the destruction, as seen in the video, suggests significant loss of property and operational assets.
The cause of the fire could not be immediately ascertained as of the time of filing this report.
In the widely shared video, a visibly distressed voice narrates the scale of the devastation, claiming that the armoury and the Squadron Commander’s office were affected.
“This is Mopol 13 that burned early this morning. This is the armoury—everything burned,” the voice said. “Even the Squadron Commander’s office was affected.”
Efforts to obtain official confirmation from the Benue State Police Command proved unsuccessful, as calls to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, were not returned at press time.
Authorities are expected to commence investigations to determine the cause of the fire and assess the full extent of the damage.
