Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes, EFCC, have arrested at least three suspected vote buyers in the ongoing governorship election in Edo State.

According to Channels TV, the suspects were arrested in the Egor Local Government Area of the state around 10:00 am on Saturday.

EFCC officials left the location with three suspects – two males and one female.

But some residents kicked against the arrest, insisting that the suspects were being victimized.

The commission had prior to the election, warned political parties against vote buying.

The EFCC had announced on Friday that it would deploy operatives to oversee the election process, pledging to uphold the integrity of the electoral exercise.

“Our operatives have been dispatched to monitor the conduct of the elections. We are dedicated to ensuring electoral integrity, allowing voters to cast their ballots freely without any financial inducement,” stated the agency’s spokesman, Dele Oyewale. “Vote buying is a financial crime, and the EFCC will not tolerate it.”
