The Edo State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal has announced its relocation from Benin City to Abuja, effective Monday, January 27, 2025.

The announcement was made by the tribunal’s secretary, Mu’azu Bagudu, who stated that proceedings would now take place at the National Judicial Institute (NJI) on Airport Road, Abuja.

“I am directed to notify all parties that the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Benin City, Edo State, has been relocated to Abuja at the National Judicial Institute (NJI), Airport Road, Abuja, effective from Monday, 27th January 2025,” the statement read in part.

No specific reason was provided for the relocation. However, it is noteworthy that several tribunal sessions have been disrupted by violence involving political actors since its resumption this year.

Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress emerged as the winner of the 2024 gubernatorial election.
