Dangote Group has agreed to reabsorb refinery workers recently dismissed, following two days of peace talks convened by the Federal Government with stakeholders.

The resolution was announced on Wednesday after a series of negotiations involving the Minister of Labour and Employment, Muhammad Dingyadi, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), and the refinery’s management.

As part of the agreement, PENGASSAN suspended its two-day strike against the company, which had threatened to disrupt gas and crude supply to the Dangote Refinery.

In a communique issued after the meeting, the Dangote Group committed to reabsorbing the disengaged workers into other subsidiaries of the conglomerate without any loss of pay.

Both parties further agreed that no worker would face victimisation for their role in the dispute.

Minister Dingyadi reminded stakeholders that Nigerian law guarantees workers’ rights to unionise and emphasized that such rights must always be upheld.

PENGASSAN confirmed it has commenced the process of calling off the strike, a move expected to calm tensions in the oil and gas sector since the industrial action was declared on Sunday.
