A State High Court sitting in Isiokpo, Rivers State, has adjourned till November 14, to hear the suit by Governor Simi Fubara, seeking to stop the Rivers State House of Assembly and the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly from impeaching him.
Others in the suit are the Deputy Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, the Clerk of the Rivers State House of Assembly and the Honourable Chief Judge of Rivers State who are the defendants in the suit.
The Claimant who doubles as the embattled governor of the state, Fubara, in suit No IHC/230/CS/2023 secured as Order of Injunction on 1st November 2023.
According to the Order: “Upon this motion exparte coming up before this Honourable Court for hearing and determination and after reading the supporting affidavit of Siminalayi Fubara filed on the 31sy day of October, 2023 at the High Court registry Isiokpo and having listened to the submission of D. O Okoro SAN with I. MAC-Barango of counsel to the claimant/Applicant.
“It is hereby ordered that the parties in this case maintain the status quo in this case by not doing anything in furtherance of the purported impeachment of the Applicant as governor of Rivers State pending the determination of the motion on notice”.
The case was then adjourned till 14 of October 2023, for argument of the Motion on Notice.
The order for injunction was endorsed by Nachikwu AnthoyOgurie, the Assistant Chief Registrar.
