The Ebonyi State Government has approved a ₦150,000 Christmas bonus for all civil servants in the state for the 2025 festive season.
Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru announced the largesse on Sunday December 14, 2025, during a church service at the Government House Chapel, Abakaliki.
The development was confirmed in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor.
According to the statement, the governor said the bonus underscores his administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare despite the state’s revenue challenges over the past year.
Governor Nwifuru also used the occasion to dismiss reports suggesting delays in the construction of the Vincent Agwu Nwankwo Flyover, describing the project as ongoing and transformative.
“You cannot find any state in Nigeria that is doing such a flyover currently,” the governor said, noting that the project, though complex, would significantly enhance the state’s outlook and infrastructure.
He further stressed that the project is driven by a desire to leave a lasting legacy of good governance, not by the abundance of funds.
Recall that in August, the Ebonyi State Government increased the minimum wage for civil servants by ₦20,000, raising it to ₦90,000 under the administration’s People’s Charter of Needs Agenda.
At the national level, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu signed the new minimum wage bill into law in July 2024, increasing the minimum wage from ₦30,000 to ₦70,000, though implementation remains uneven across states.
