The All Progressives Congress (APC) has named Dr. Nentawe Yilwatda, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, as its new National Chairman, following a high-stakes National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held Thursday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Dr. Yilwatda’s nomination was put forward by the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Governor Hope Uzodimma, and seconded by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen.
The motion was unanimously adopted via a voice vote by NEC members present, marking a significant shift in the party’s national leadership structure.
The 14th NEC meeting brought together top party stakeholders from across the country as the APC positions itself for the 2025 Anambra governorship election and upcoming bye-elections.
The meeting also served as a strategic platform to review internal structures and chart a cohesive path forward ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Representing Delta State at the high-level meeting was Senator Ned Munir Nwoko, the senator for Delta North, who was among the 21 senators accredited to participate in the session.
He joined other prominent Delta APC figures, including Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, former Deputy Senate President Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, APC State Chairman Elder Omeni Sobotie, and party chieftain Stella Okotete.
Delivering a critical report to the NEC, the National Organizing Secretary, Sulaiman Muhammad Argungu, described his presentation as a “comprehensive compendium” intended to guide future party policies and operations.
The document was received with approval as members signaled readiness to strengthen the party’s internal cohesion.
Political analysts view the strong presence of serving legislators, including lawmakers expected to seek re-election, as a demonstration of the APC’s effort to consolidate ahead of the next electoral cycle.
Their participation, observers note, reflects a renewed push to build party unity around tested leaders.
