BREAKING NEWS: 2-Storey Building Collapses Near Asaba Int’l Airport

A 2-storey building under construction near the Asaba International Airport has collapsed, leaving construction workers to scamper for safety in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

Although, there is no report of life lost yet, it was gathered that some og the workers jumped from the building into others compounds around the building at the time og the incidence.

It was gathered that the workers had finished the second storey and were moving I to the third couch when trouble started.

A source disclosed that some workers sustained injuries in the process of trying to escape for their lives.

Our source revealed that the building was been rushed by the owner as there was constant wirk ongoing without stop before the collapse occured.

According to SaharaReporters reliably gathered that the building, located opposite Asaba Airport, adjacent a Nigerian Police Station, (former SARs), Okpanam collapsed following Saturday downpour that left several residents close to the area in serious panic.

Witnesses, however told SaharaReporters that some of the trapped workers had been rescued while the search for others was still on.

According to one of the workers who simply identified himself as Unor, confirmed that several workers were severely injured while jumping from the second floor of the building to escape from being trapped while few others successfully escaped unhurt.

Unor told SaharaReporters that those who sustained wounds had been rushed to the hospital for medical treatment, saying that “As we talk, everybody has left the site and you know for fear of police arrest, some of the people in charge of the building have gone into hiding.

“Some persons around the estate actually came to assist in the rescue of victims during the collapse of the building.”

When contacted for comment, the state Commissioner for Housing, Godknows Agele, did not respond calls and messages put across to his phone as at the time of filing in this report.
