In a bold move to deepen democratic participation and extend governance to the grassroots, the Ogun State Government has announced the appointment of 1,200 political assistants, strategically positioned across the state’s 236 wards.
The Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to Governor Dapo Abiodun, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, confirmed the appointments in a statement, describing the initiative as a deliberate step to broaden access to democratic dividends and strengthen civic engagement.
According to him, each ward will have five political assistants tasked with acting as change agents, enhancing local participation in governance, and effectively bridging the gap between the people and the state government.
“The newly appointed assistants will support the delivery of democratic dividends, articulate the needs of their communities, and provide timely feedback between the government and the grassroots,” Akinmade said.
He stressed that the development was in line with Governor Abiodun’s electoral pledge to run an all-inclusive administration that places premium value on the voices and aspirations of the people in shaping policies and development programs.
The state government urged the appointees to justify their selection by working diligently to advance the growth and development of their wards, local councils, and the state at large.
It would be recall that Ogun State finished 6th overall in the just-concluded National Youth Games.
They returned home with a total of 37 medals:
11 Gold
11 Silver
15 Bronze
