It was gathered that the occupants of the tricycle otherwise known as Keke, were students of the Polytechnic who just graduated and were in celebration mood when they met their untimely deaths.
It was reliably learnt that the accident occurred at about 7:48pm around the Micnelo Hostel axis along the polytechnic road killed a male and female students while others sustained various degrees of injuries.
Amongst the casualties identified is a female student who was simply named as Melissa, a fresh Higher National Diploma (HND), graduate from Mass Communication department.
It was learnt that two students almost died from stampede due to over joyous students who were spraying money after their graduation.
“The speed in the school premises was something else and nobody could stop them. Even the police men and security operatives stationed in the school compound for peace, security and order were busy begging alms from these students who drove recklessly”, a source who pleaded anonymity alleged.
“Yesterday after graduating from the Delta State Polytechnic Ogwashi Uku, Five of them lost their lives along the Ogwashi Uku Road, Delta State as a result of tricycle and car accident”.
Meanwhile, one of the surviving victim simply identified as Anabel has alsoe given up the ghost.
It was learnt that Anabel was the best friend oto Melissa who died on the spot when a reckless driver rammed into their keke around the Micnelo Hostel axis along the polytechnic road.
According to reports, the unconscious Anabel was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Asaba after Melissa was said to have died on the spot.
It gathered that she was referred from FMC, Asaba, to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital where it was disclosed that half of her body was already paralyzed and that there was nothing possible that could be done to revive her.
When contacted, the Head of Operations, Federal Road Safety Corp ( FRSC), Delta State Command, Mr. Bakare Fatai Adesina said that the command was not notified about the accident.
At press time, the Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO), DSP Onome Onovwakpoyeya, said she has not been able to across to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Ogwashi-Uku.
