The Delta State Commissioner for Primary Education, Dr. Kingsley Ashibogwu, has tasked pupils across the state to aim for excellence and innovation as they participate in this year’s Junior Engineers, Technicians and Scientists (JETS) competition and the Primary Mathematics Competition held in Asaba.

Declaring the event open through the Director of Science Education, Mrs. Hope Igumbor, Dr. Ashibogwu commended the pupils and their teachers for their enthusiasm and commitment to learning.

He emphasized that science and technology remain key drivers of progress, urging participants to think creatively and apply their classroom knowledge to real-life challenges.

According to him, last year’s limited representation cost Delta State some major prizes at the national level, a situation the Ministry is determined to change.

“Our focus this year is not just to send more projects to the national competition but to ensure they reflect originality, innovation, and practical problem-solving,” he said.

Dr. Ashibogwu explained that the competitions were designed to identify and nurture young talents in Mathematics, Computer Science, and Basic Science.

The best-performing pupils, he added, would represent the state at the national finals.

Encouraging the participants, he described the event as an avenue to build confidence, creativity, and teamwork among pupils.

“You are the future scientists, engineers, and innovators of our state and nation. Use this platform to showcase your best ideas and make Delta proud,” he told the contestants.

The event, which drew participants from across the 25 local government areas, is part of the state government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen STEM education and promote academic excellence in primary schools.
