Asagba Of Asaba Kicks Off Inaugural IGCC Tournament, Accepts Patronship, Donates N5 Million

His Royal Majesty, Prof. Epiphany Azinge, SAN, OON, the Asagba of Asaba, officially inaugurated the inaugural Prof. Epiphany Azinge (Asagba of Asaba) Golf Tournament on Saturday at the Ibori Golf and Country Club (IGCC) in Asaba, signifying a significant addition to the sporting and social fabric of Delta State’s capital.

The vibrant event also featured the formal appointment of the esteemed monarch as Patron of the Ibori Golf and Country Club, following his acceptance of the position by the club’s leadership.

In his remarks during the tournament, Prof. Azinge expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Club’s Captain, Hon. Chief Patrick Ukah, and the members of the Executive Committee and Board of Trustees for the honor bestowed upon him.

He commended the organizers for the successful execution of the tournament and lauded the participants for their spirit of enthusiasm and sportsmanship.

The monarch personally awarded trophies to the winner, first runner-up, and second runner-up of the tournament, congratulating them on their outstanding performances.

Reflecting on the rich history of Asaba, the Asagba highlighted the city’s transformation, from its early discovery through the Royal Niger Company era to its designation as the capital of Delta State in 1991.

He noted that Asaba has since emerged as a major hub for tourism, hospitality, and socio-economic activities.

Prof. Azinge characterized the Ibori Golf and Country Club as a vital asset to the Asaba Kingdom, urging traditional title holders, political leaders, and residents to actively support the club through membership and participation.

He expressed satisfaction with the condition of the golf course and encouraged the management to maintain the facility diligently.

Demonstrating his commitment to the club’s growth and development, the Asagba initiated the proposed Cart Shade Project with a generous donation of ₦5 million.

In solidarity, Obi Onyemanaogeme Ajufoh and Hon. Engr. Kennedy Okafor each contributed ₦500,000, with several other members also pledging financial support for the project.

Earlier, in his welcome address, the Captain of IGCC, Hon. Chief Patrick Ukah, expressed gratitude to the monarch for honoring the club with his presence and accepting the role of Patron.

He formally decorated the Asagba alongside members of the Board of Trustees, noting that his patronage is a significant boost to the club’s aspirations and future endeavors.

The event attracted a diverse gathering of prominent traditional rulers, political leaders, golfers, and distinguished guests from within and outside Delta State.
