The Asagba of Asaba Obi Prof. Epiphany Azinge, has applauded the leadership of Oshimili South Local Government for delivering the newly built Ogbeogonogo Shopping Complex, describing it as proof that local governments can drive real development when guided by vision and commitment.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, on Tuesday September 30, 2025, the revered monarch urged the council chairman, Hon. Ezenyili, to take the initiative further by planning for an international market that would position Asaba as a major commercial hub in Delta State.

He stressed that indigenes of Asaba should be given priority in shop allocations to ensure fairness and inclusivity.

The Asagba also encouraged the council to maintain the new facilities to guard against future risks, noting that sustainable maintenance was as important as the initial investment.

He further urged the chairman to consider putting in place an insurance cover, particularly for the building.

Reaffirming his administration’s commitment to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda, Ezenyili pledged to continue executing meaningful projects across Oshimili South communities.

“This is just the beginning. We will keep working hard to ensure our people enjoy the dividends of democracy,” he said.

The modern shopping complex is designed to provide a safer, more conducive environment for traders, replacing the old structures destroyed by fire.

With improved facilities, the complex is expected to stimulate local commerce and attract wider business opportunities in the area.

One of the traders, Mr. Isaac Nkenchor, who lost his shop in the fire incident, expressed gratitude for his relocation to the new market.

“When the fire happened, I lost everything. This new shop feels like a miracle. I’m grateful to both the state and local governments for giving us hope again,” he said.

The ceremony concluded with cheers as the Asagba of Asaba performed the ceremonial ribbon-cutting, officially opening the new Ogbeogonogo Shopping Complex to the public.
