Chief Emmanuel Afam Eboh, Policy Adviser to Senator Ned Nwoko and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has dismissed as “fake news” the rumour alleging that Asaba may be replaced as the capital of the proposed Anioma State.
In a statement issued in Abuja, Chief Eboh clarified that the Anioma State Creation Bill, sponsored by Senator Nwoko, clearly and unequivocally designates Asaba as the capital.
He stressed that no discussion, amendment, or deliberation has ever suggested a change to that provision.
Describing those behind the rumour as “grossly ignorant,” Eboh explained that the National Assembly’s legislative procedures do not allow arbitrary alterations once a bill has been properly introduced.
He insisted that the bill remains “sacrosanct and irreversible,” faulting rumour peddlers for misunderstanding the lawmaking process.
He condemned the speculation as “sinister and mischievous propaganda” aimed at undermining the genuine and longstanding quest for Anioma State.
According to him, such misinformation is being driven by “mischievous political mercenaries” whose motives will soon be uncovered.
Reaffirming Senator Nwoko’s unwavering support for Asaba, Eboh noted that the senator has consistently backed the city both as Delta State’s capital and as the “irrefutable headquarters” of the proposed Anioma State.
He emphasized that the pursuit of Anioma State is not a personal ambition but the continuation of a 70-year agitation championed by the region’s forebears.
He urged residents of Asaba, Delta North, and Nigerians at large to disregard the rumour, pointing to Senator Nwoko’s cordial relationship with the Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty Obi Prof. Epiphany Azinge, whom he holds in high esteem.
Eboh also highlighted key interventions by the senator to advance Asaba’s development, including his advocacy for upgrading the Federal College of Education (Technical), Asaba, into a university and his efforts toward rehabilitating the Asaba–Onitsha road.
According to him, these initiatives demonstrate Senator Nwoko’s commitment to strengthening Asaba’s growth as Delta’s capital today and Anioma’s future administrative headquarters.
He appealed to the people of Delta North to continue supporting Senator Nwoko, stating that the creation of Anioma State would bring widespread benefits.
“Senator Ned Nwoko remains resolute and focused in his pursuit of Anioma State creation, with Asaba as its capital,” Eboh concluded.
