The Arewa Cohesion for Peace, Unity and Development Initiative has felicitated former President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (rtd.), on the occasion of his 84th birthday.
In a goodwill message, the Initiative described General Babangida as a father figure, elder statesman, and one of Nigeria’s most iconic leaders whose wealth of experience, foresight, and wisdom continue to inspire successive generations.
Director General of the Initiative, Dr. Abdullahi Idris, fondly recalled the warm reception accorded to its leadership during a courtesy visit to General Babangida at his Hilltop residence in Minna, where the elder statesman graciously endorsed the vision and objectives of the group.
Dr. Idris noted that General Babangida’s encouragement and words of wisdom have since remained a guiding force in the Initiative’s interventions, particularly in advancing its core mission of strengthening peace, unity, and development across Northern Nigeria.
He commended the former President’s lifelong commitment to the ideals of unity, justice, and progress, stressing that his counsel remains invaluable to Nigeria’s democratic journey.
“On behalf of the Arewa Cohesion family, we pray Almighty Allah to grant General Babangida continued good health, long life, and inner peace,” Dr. Idris said, adding that both Nigeria and the North would continue to benefit immensely from his wisdom and fatherly guidance.
