ANAMBRA RACE: APC Panel Receives Five Petitions, Says Chairman

Five petitions have been sent to the All Progressives Congress (APC) Appeal Panel in the just concluded Anambra State governorship primary elections.

Gombe State Governor Inuwa Yahaya who doubles as the Chairman of the Appeal Panel disclosed on Friday June 2nd 2021, that the panel has received five petitions from contestants in the primary.

Recall that most of the 14 aspirants that contested the primary have already condemned its outcome and declaration of Andy Ubah as winner.

Governor Yahaya who met with members of the Committee at the formal inauguration at the APC national Secretariat in Abuja, said the Committee had since started work, promising to trash the issues at stake through discussion and dialogue.

On the massive defections into the ruling party, governor Yahaya said the APC is attracting people because it is more solid and more transparent in its dealings with the high and low than the opposition.

He however allayed fears that the APC is pushing the country to a one party state, insisting that provided there are people, political parties would exist if they meet INEC condition for registration.

“I think we have already gotten petitions from the aspirants and we shall trash them and find solution to all claims or observations made by the constants.

“Five petitions are with us right now and we are given time within which we shall conclude with them.

“On defections, may be the opponent would say the people leaving them are not good for them, but a party that is in control necessarily has to attract people that are from outside to give their support, and they are coming because they realize that APC is more solid, more on the ground and really more transparent and open in terms of how it deals with everybody; the high and the low.

“That is why they’re coming so we welcome them and anybody that says no to that may be we have to make a rethink because the party is about people and all politicians are invited and welcome to any party that they think belongs to the right track. That is what APC is.

On whether Nigeria is headed for a One party State, Governor Yahaya said:

“No! no! no! As at the last count, INEC, and mind you, the process of registration is there, free for all. Anybody could go to register a party provided he meets the constitutional provisions and the regulatory requirements of INEC. There are parties and there will still be more parties. So, why one party? I think that will never arise. Not in Nigeria”.
