The Nigeria Police Academy has continued its tradition of intellectual engagement and professional development through its strategic security lecture series, featuring former Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG), Dr. Abdulrahman Ahmad, as guest lecturer.
The event, held at the CBN Auditorium of the Academy, drew an audience of senior officers, directors, departmental heads, and cadets, all eager to engage with pressing issues confronting the Nigeria Police Force.
The lecture series is part of the vision of the 22nd indigenous Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, aimed at strengthening the capacity and professionalism of the force.
Welcoming participants, the 24th Commandant of the Academy, AIG Patrick A. Atayero, represented by the Deputy Commandant, underscored the relevance of the series in shaping the future of policing in Nigeria.
Delivering his lecture titled “The Challenges of Policing in Modern Nigeria,” Dr. Ahmad offered a comprehensive analysis of the complexities of policing in a rapidly evolving society.
He stressed the urgent need for law enforcement to embrace emerging technologies, adapt to dynamic security threats, and address underlying socio-economic drivers of crime and insecurity.
Central to his message was the call for professionalism as the foundation for rebuilding public trust in the police. He emphasized that integrity, accountability, and excellence must guide policing practice. Dr. Ahmad also identified systemic challenges such as inadequate logistics, poor training infrastructure, and insufficient welfare provisions for officers, noting that these issues undermine operational efficiency.
Highlighting the importance of leadership in organizational success, the former AIG urged continuous investment in leadership growth and capacity development across the force.
Effective leadership, he argued, requires a blend of vision, knowledge, and practical experience.
In recognition of his impactful presentation, AIG Patrick A. Atayero, on behalf of the Academy, presented Dr. Ahmad with a plaque of honor.
