Scores of Labour Party (LP) members in Oluyole Local Government Area of Oyo State have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), signaling a shift in the region’s political dynamics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The defection, which took place at the PDP’s local government secretariat in Idi-Ayunre, Ibadan, was led by Okedeji Abiodun, also known as “Better Life,” the LP Vice Chairmanship Candidate in the last LG election in Oyo State.
Key Labour Party figures, including Oluwole Paul (Oluyole LP Secretary), Ward Chairmen, and Councillorship Candidates, were among the defectors.
They cited the positive impact of the PDP-led administration on grassroots development, welfarism, and inclusive governance as reasons for their move.
Engr. Akeem Olatunji, the Executive Chairman of Oluyole LG, described the defection as evidence of the PDP’s growing influence, attributing it to Governor Seyi Makinde’s achievements and the administration’s commitment to development.
He assured the new members of equal opportunities within the party and urged other opposition members to consider joining the PDP for a united Oyo State.
In his remarks, Oluyole LG PDP Chairman, Alhaji Mukaila Adegbola, welcomed the defectors, emphasizing that all members, regardless of their status, would be treated equally.
Leading the defectors, Okedeji Abiodun praised Olatunji’s leadership, promising to contribute to the PDP’s efforts to sustain good governance and development in the local government.
The event was attended by key PDP leaders, including Hon. Waheed Akintayo, Hon. Olaide Settle, Architect Salam Azeez, and other dignitaries, reflecting the party’s consolidated support in Oluyole LG.
