…party passes confidence vote, hails president’s bold reforms, governor’s developmental strides

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has passed a resounding vote of confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, endorsing both leaders as the party’s sole candidates for the 2027 general elections.

The endorsement came during a high-powered APC Stakeholders’ Meeting held on Sunday at the State Banquet Hall, Government House, Asaba, which brought together top party leaders, serving and former lawmakers, commissioners, council chairmen, local government party executives, and political stakeholders from across the state’s three senatorial districts.

The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, moved the motion for the vote of confidence, which was seconded by Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly.

Keyamo praised President Tinubu’s “bold reforms and transformative leadership,” describing the removal of fuel subsidy as a responsible economic decision that has freed billions for critical national infrastructure.

“Just two days ago, Mr. President approved $1 billion for the resuscitation of the Warri Port and other major projects. He also mentioned key national infrastructure such as the Lagos–Calabar Coastal Highway and the reconstruction of Lagos Airport.

“These are direct results of the subsidy removal savings. The President has proven to be a prudent manager and visionary leader,” Keyamo stated.

He also commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his visionary leadership and the ongoing wave of infrastructural development across Delta State, describing him as “a unifying force who has redefined governance.”

Moving the motion, Keyamo proposed that:

“The Delta APC passes a vote of confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and adopts them as the party’s sole candidates for the 2027 general elections.”

The motion was unanimously adopted amid thunderous applause.

Seconding the motion, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei lauded both leaders for their inclusive governance and developmental strides, saying:

“The people of Delta State and the South-South stand firmly behind President Tinubu and Governor Oborevwori for their clear vision for a renewed Nigeria and a progressive Delta.”

In his response, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori expressed profound gratitude to the APC stakeholders for the endorsement, assuring them of his continued dedication to development, transparency, and good governance.

“I sincerely thank you for the confidence reposed in us and for accepting us as sole candidates in 2027. The APC is growing stronger every day, and before the end of November, more governors will join us,” the governor declared.

He hailed President Tinubu as “a man who rewards loyalty, commitment, and results,” urging party members to prove their support through action.

“In 2027, our votes will be our report card. Those who claim to love the President must show it through the ballot. In the last election, I won 21 out of 25 local governments because we worked hard and stayed loyal. That’s what real commitment means,” Oborevwori said.

He warned against disloyalty and hypocrisy within party ranks, stating:

“Some people in power today didn’t work for the APC, but we know them. When the time comes, we will expose them. This time, loyalty will be rewarded—not hypocrisy.”

The governor emphasized unity and collective decision-making, urging leaders to put the interest of the party above personal ambition.

On governance, Oborevwori highlighted key infrastructural projects across Delta State, including the ₦59 billion Uromi Junction Flyover, the ₦39 billion Ughelli Flyover, and the Warri–Sapele Road rehabilitation, for which groundbreaking will take place on Tuesday.

“This is the only state where contractors are not owed. We pay 40% mobilization upfront because we are managing resources efficiently. The President’s reforms are working, and Delta is proof of that,” he said.

Former Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, expressed delight at the unity within the APC, describing the April 28, 2025 mass defection into the party as “a turning point in Delta’s political history.”

“Joining the APC was the right step in the right direction. The party is now stronger, more united, and better positioned for victory in 2027,” Okowa declared.

He praised President Tinubu’s economic reforms as “bold and necessary” and applauded Governor Oborevwori for his humility and inclusive leadership, which he said have strengthened the party across all senatorial zones.

In his welcome address, APC State Chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie, said Governor Oborevwori’s performance had made the party “formidable and unstoppable,” declaring that “anyone planning to contest against him will meet a brick wall.”

Also speaking, Chief Paulinus Akpeki (Delta Central), Chief Adizue Eluaka (Delta North), and Chief Austin Oribioye (Delta South) pledged total unity and focus, affirming that the APC was now more cohesive and ready to win all elections in 2027.

Representing the National Assembly, Senators Ede Dafinone, Ned Nwoko, Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, and Hon. Nicholas Mutu jointly declared:

“There is no vacancy till 2031. We will keep working in the interest of our constituents and the APC.”

Prominent leaders, including Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, and Senator James Manager, also affirmed that “there is no opposition to Governor Oborevwori in 2027,” pledging massive votes for both the Governor and the President.

Other speakers, including Hon. Dagidi Andaye (ALGON representative), Hon. Stella Okotete (former APC National Women Leader), Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor (Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly), and Mr. Nobert Akachukwu (Forum of LGA Party Chairmen), all reaffirmed their total support for the leadership of President Tinubu and Governor Oborevwori.

As the meeting drew to a close, the atmosphere was one of celebration, solidarity, and renewed confidence, marking what many described as a defining moment in Delta APC’s march toward 2027 victory.
