Presidential aspirant of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Prince Adebayo Adewale, has defeated his rival, Mrs. Kadija Okonu, to pick the ticket of the party in the 2023 presidential election.
The primary of the party was held on Wednesday 8th June 2022, at the International Conference Centre, Abuja.
Adebayo, got a total of 1, 526 votes to clinch the presidential ticket of the party while his opponent scored 83 votes in the election was conducted under the watch of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the media.
The SDP Presidential primary election got 44 invalid votes.
Declaring Prince Adebayo, winner of the presidential primary election, Chairman of the SDP Electoral Panel, Dr. Umar Ardo, disclosed that Prince Adebayo, haven scored the highest vote, “therefore with the power conferred on me by the National Committee and Convention, I return him as the presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party”.
In his acceptance speech, Prince Adebayo, appreciated all and tagged the night as a night of liberation, assuring of that SDP would give the country social justice.
Earlier, Mrs. Okonu, appreciated God for making it possible for her to be present for the presidential primary, saying “Today we send a message to the whole world that SDP can unite Nigeria, I stand before you to invoke the future of our children and the next generation”.
