…Okowa deserves to be Nigeria’s president — Elumelu

Although, it is still speculation in the rumour mill, there are allegations that the Delta State governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, is perfecting plans to defect to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), at the centre.

It was gathered that the clandestine move, is to enable the governor return to the National Assembly (NASS), under the All Progressives Congress.

It was alleged that Okowa, following the defection of big shots from the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), recently, is making alternative arrangements to fall back to the Senate from where he contested the state governorship after one tenure, if the plans for the Vice Presidential slot under the PDP fails.

A source who pleaded anonymity, said the governor is working round the clock to secure a solid foundation for his defection to the APC.

According to our source, if the arrangement for Okowa to vice his Sokoto State counterpart, Aminu Tambuwal, under the Umbrella party flops, the governor may likely cross carpet to APC, to struggle it out with the Delta north Senatorial District incumbent Senator, Sen. Peter Nwoaboshi, who is seeking to Deputize Omo-Agege, as governor or alternatively remain in the Senate come 2023 under his new party.

Our source, holds strongly that all things been equal, Okowa, is currently crossing the Ts and dotting the Is ahead of the next political dispensation, owing to the fact that former House of Representatives member, Hon. Ned Nwoko, from the grapevine, is equally preparing to battle for the Senate again after losing it to Senator Nwoaboshi, in 2019.

“The Defection of the governor came as a rumour but the way things are going now, it is becoming very clear that Okowa, is dumping PDP”, the source said.

The Story, reliably gathered that the current Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, Hon. Ndudi Elumelu, who defeated an incumbent, is purportedly eyeing the Delta north Senatorial seat.

In a swift reaction, the Chief Press Secretary (CPS), to the Governor, Mr. Olise Ifeajika, who laughed at the speculation, said: “thank God you said it is a rumour”.

Said he: “Okowa, is a foundation member of PDP, he is the leader of PDP in Delta and the chairman of Governors Forum in the South-south.

“He is a principled man, everybody knows his credentials in politics, he is being involved in moulding and bringing PDP together. He lives it everyday on how PDP will be better everyday.

“The concern of every PDP member is how PDP will win at the centre”, pointing out that the rumour is the figment of the peddler.

In what seems like an oratory prowess, Hon. Elumelu, called on the state governor to contest for the Presidency of the country come 2023.

Elumelu, who stated this in Asaba, the Capital on Saturday, stressed that Governor Okowa is endowed with the capacity and proficiencies to rescue the nation from the misrule of the All Progressives Congress and reposition her to the path of peace, unity and economic prosperity.

The Minority leader, who spoke at the installation of Rotary Club’s 2nd President for 2021/2022 Rotary Club Year (Club of Asaba Downtown District 9141), pointed out that Governor Okowa should serve as the President of the nation so that he could replicate his achievements in massive infrastructural and human capital development in the state, at the national level.

Hear him: “I must commend Governor Okowa for his selfless service and sacrifices that have led to unprecedented massive infrastructural development in our dear state as well as a better living standard for our people.

“Governor Okowa is a rare gift not only to Delta state, but also to our nation Nigeria, at large. I firmly hold that he is endowed with the capacity and proficiencies to serve our nation at the topmost level so that he can replicate the successes recorded in our state at the national level.

“I sincerely call on him to make himself available to serve the nation again. He deserves to be the president of this country, come 2023” Elumelu stated.

However, another oratory performance which played out between the incumbent governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike and former governor of Akwa-Ibom State, Godwin Akpabio, saw the two opposition party juggernauts, wooing each other.

While Wike described the APC as cancerous, he tagged his PDP as a party infected with Malaria.

According to him, “I will rather remain in a place where there is Malaria than come to a place where there is cancer. Malaria is treatable, cancer at its early stage can kill. I don’t want to die now”, Wike mocked Akpabio and his party in the presence of the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.

Akpabio however told Wike, “I won’t call you a performing governor because you are not in APC”, while Wike noted: “Akpabio was an uncommon Governor under PDP, is he an uncommon Minister under APC?, Wike asked.
