14 Allege Illegal Revenue Collectors Nabbed In Anambra

The police in Anambra state arrested 14 persons suspected to be illegal revenue racketeers purportedly harassing and extorting innocent citizens in the revenue generation for the Anambra State government.

In furtherance to its determination towards eradicating this menace, police patrol teams attached to the Area Command Onitsha and Okpoko Division while on patrol along, Upper Iweka, Owerri road and headbridge all in Onitsha arrested 14 more illegal alleged revenue collectors under false pretense of being government revenue agents in the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), CSP Haruna Mohammed, disclosed that this brings the number of suspects arrested for illegal revenue collections so far to 43 within one week, warning that the operation is still ongoing.

It would be recalled that the command has paraded 13 suspects on 20the January, 2021.

“This operation was in compliance with Anambra State Government directives on the 7th December,2020 “banning all forms of illegal  revenue collections by persons claiming to be  State revenue agents or officials.

Suspects would be brought to book as soon as investigations are concluded”, revealing that the Command would continue to pursue the hoodlums until they refrain from criminal activities or relocate from the State.
