The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Delta State has set aside Saturday 24th July, 2021, starting from 7:00am to carry out a statewide environmental sanitation exercise in all the local government areas of the State.
This is in line with the directive of the National Directorate of NYSC for a nationwide Environmental Sanitation Exercise that would enhance clean and hygienic environment.
According to the statement earlier released by NYSC Coordinator in the state, Mrs. Olutayo Samuel, the programme is part of the Community Development Service (CDS) initiative of the NYSC which is a core mandate of the Scheme towards a peaceful and hygiene friendly environment.
She recalled that recently, the Scheme carried out the NYSC Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers across the Isoko Nation with over 6000 patients benefitting from their various free treatments, distribution of drugs and eye glasses, including minor surgeries.
The State Coordinator therefore, urged Deltans to support and own the programme as a way of setting minimum health standard for themselves and supporting government’s efforts at providing healthy environment for all, maintaining that government alone cannot do everything for her citizens.
Olutayo nonetheless, called on various councils leaderships, community leaders, religious bodies, market men and women, youth organizations and others to join in the exercise and make it worthwhile.
She affirmed that all corps members serving in the state and the NYSC officials had already been mobilized for the purpose.
While commending the state government and various stakeholders for their ever dependable synergies, she called on corporate entities and well meaning individuals to key into the programme by assisting with tools and logistics for the community development service.
