As the race towards 2023 governorship election in Delta State, thickens, the cold hands of death has snatched one of the gubernatorial aspirants, Olorogun Kenneth Opkara, an indigene of Eku kingdom, Ethiope east local government area of Delta State.
Olorogun Kenneth Okpara, was a former Commissioner for Economic Planning and Finance under the administration of Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, former governor of the State between 2007 and 2015.
Okpara was born on February 8, 1961, and hailed from Eku kingdom, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State.
Okpara, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was said to have battled with an unknown illness for the past three years.
He died in the early hours of Friday in an undisclosed hospital.
He was appointed by the immediate past governor of the state, Emmanuel Uduaghan as commissioner for economic planning and was in office from September 2011-July 2013 and was the finance commissioner from July 2013 –May 2015.
At press time, details of the death of Okpara were still sketchy but an official of the party who spoke on condition of anonymity confirmed the death.
“Yes, Kenneth Okpara is dead, he died at about 4:00 am this morning and that’s all I can say for now. May his soul rest in peace amen,” the PDP official said.
