In pursuit of agricultural transformation and foreign investment, Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has directed a high-level delegation to Brazil to explore strategic partnerships with some of the country’s foremost ranch operators.
The mission, part of the Governor’s broader economic diversification agenda, is designed to enhance food security, modernize livestock production, and create sustainable jobs for the people of Delta State.
During the working tour, the delegation visited one of Brazil’s largest and most innovative ranches, where they held extensive discussions with the management, inspected facilities, and explored areas of collaboration.
Focus areas included cattle breeding, livestock management, pasture development, dairy production, and agro-processing.
Leading the delegation, Dr. Barry Pere Gbe, Chief Economic Adviser to the Governor, emphasized Delta State’s commitment to adopting global best practices in agriculture.
“Brazil is renowned for its innovations in livestock and ranching. We believe this collaboration will deliver immense benefits to our people, particularly in food production, job creation, and rural development,” Dr. Gbe stated.
He added that Governor Oborevwori’s vision is to replicate successful Brazilian models in Delta State, build local capacity, and attract direct investments to strengthen the agricultural value chain.
Members of the delegation included Ada Val Arenyeka, Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources; Charles Aniagwu, Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads and Public Information); Samuel Oligida, Commissioner for Trade and Investment; Hon. Anthony Elekeokwuri, Director General of the Delta State Investment Development Agency; and Barrister George Orogun, Special Adviser on Investments.
In their remarks, the Brazilian hosts, led by Mr. Gustavo Monaco, expressed optimism about forging partnerships with Delta State, describing Nigeria’s vast market and Delta’s fertile environment as key advantages for successful collaboration.
Both parties agreed to deepen engagements through investment initiatives, knowledge exchange, and technology transfer.
The delegation is expected to present a comprehensive report to Governor Oborevwori, outlining recommendations for pilot ranching projects and other agricultural initiatives across the state.
This initiative aligns with the Governor’s drive to position Delta State as a leading hub for agribusiness in Nigeria and West Africa, while fostering an enabling environment for investors and empowering local farmers with international expertise.
