Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, the embattled Yoruba nation agitator, has claimed that he is the target of a plot in Benin Republic.
Recall that on July 19, operatives of the Brigade Criminelle (Criminal Brigade) arrested the 49-year-old agitator in Cotonou.
Despite efforts to have him released, The Nation has discovered that he has spent over 161 days in custody.
In a podcast monitored by our reporter on Tuesday evening, Olayomi Koiki, an Igboho spokesman, claimed that Benin President Patrice Talon was working with the Federal Government to extradite Igboho to Nigeria.
“So many people have heard rumors in the last 24/48 hours,” he said.
Continuing, he said: We are aware that the Almighty is keeping an eye on us. They can’t be successful if they’re trying. They are only attempting to harm Prof. Banji Akintoye and others; however, God’s power is superior.
“The enemies are trying to eliminate him (Sunday Igboho). Their plan is to eliminate him so that the Yoruba Nation agenda will be silenced, but God has shown that he is above them.
“If you think the legal route is what will set Igboho free, then we are wasting our time. Benin Republic judicial system is not working. Look at the way his case has been prolonged.
“I have spoken with our lawyer in Benin, and he told me that only the president can set him free. Now, diplomacy cannot work. We have to fight for our right.
“See the way they killed MKO Abiola, Funsho Williams – they were killed unjustly. We’ve issued so many ultimatum for Igboho’s release, but nothing has happened”, he said.
