The Yobe State Government has recruited 948 new primary school teachers as part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen the basic education sector and address manpower gaps in public primary schools across the state.
The Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Alhaji Umaru Hassan Babayo, confirmed the development after a meeting with the Executive Governor of Yobe State, Dr. Mai Mala Buni (CON, COMN), in Damaturu.
According to Babayo, the recruitment exercise was aimed at filling existing vacancies in the state’s primary schools and improving the teacher-to-pupil ratio for more effective learning outcomes.
He revealed that a large number of the newly recruited teachers were volunteer educators who had been offering their services selflessly in various schools prior to the exercise.
“SUBEB is organizing orientation workshops and capacity-building sessions to equip the recruits with modern teaching methods and classroom management skills for effective knowledge delivery,” Babayo stated.
The SUBEB Chairman urged the new teachers to justify the confidence reposed in them by the government, assuring that the Board would intensify monitoring and evaluation visits to ensure accountability, improved productivity, and value for government investment.
In his remarks, Governor Mai Mala Buni commended SUBEB for the successful conduct of the recruitment exercise and emphasized the need to engage only qualified candidates.
“Government will continue to support the Board in promoting efficiency and productivity to achieve our vision of taking education in Yobe State to greater heights,” Governor Buni assured.
The recruitment drive is part of the state government’s broader education reform initiative aimed at enhancing the quality of teaching and learning, improving infrastructure, and achieving sustainable development in the education sector.
