As teachers in Delta State and in Warri Federal Constituency join their counterparts in Nigeria and the world to mark this year’s 2020 ‘teachers day’ the member representing Warri Federal Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Chief Thomas Ereyitomi JP has congratulated teachers in Warri federal constituency.
Chief Ereyitomi JP felicitated with teachers for their courage, devotion to duties despite the pandemic and other challenges, he described teachers as the bedrock of any nation and for their rescue of education in the country using digitalised online teaching methodology to impact more knowledge to pupils and students as well as the tertiary classes and institutions.
The Warri federal lawmaker urged teachers to continually put in their best as their reward won’t be left unattended to, assuring that he would do everything possible to attract good package and reward for teachers.
Hon. Ereyitomi commended President Muhammadu Buhari for approving spacial salaries structure for teachers as well as adjusting retirement age of teachers from 35 years to 40 years in service and other welfare packages for them, all in order to encourage better and efficient delivery of knowledge on students which are the future of Nigeria.
He appealed to those whose duties it is to do the needful by paying teachers pensions and gratuities as at when in order to boost morals of teachers in the country, he called on federal government to roll out policy to better teachers lives as their welfare matters for the future of the Nigerian people.
Spokesman to Hon. Ereyitomi , Amb. Toyin Agbolaya JP through a statement made available said the Warri federal parliamentarian want teachers to remain focused and determined in discharge of their duties and be assured of support even as he commend them for their continuous support when ever called upon.
It would be recalled that An arm of the United Nations Organization, UN, UNESCO proclaimed 5 October to be World Teachers Day in 1994, celebrating the great step made for teachers on 5 October 1966, when a special intergovernmental conference convened by UNESCO in Paris and adopted the UNESCO/ILO, International Labour Organization recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, inline with the ILO.
The ILO recommendation paved way for the rights and responsibilities of teachers as well as international standards for their initial preparation and further education, recruitment, employment, teaching and learning conditions.
