Delta state government has assured alumni associations in the state that it would match their efforts in developing their alma maters based on the needs assessment of the various public schools in the state.
The state governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, gave this assurance while unveiling the new ultramodern assembly hall remodeled by St. Anthony’s College, Ubulu-Uku, Old Boys Association (SACOBA), class of 1990.
Senator Okowa, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chief Patrick Ukah, said that the government could not shoulder the burden of the education sector alone.
He commended the class of 90 for their initiative in contributing to the development of their alma mater and called on corporate organisations and well meaning Deltans to join hands with government in developing the
sector.
The Governor appealed to the various alma maters of public schools in the state to mobilize their old teachers who are still able and willing to deploy their wealth of experience in grooming the students, especially for terminal examinations, which he said will help improve the academic performance of the students.
Earlier in his remarks, the member representing Aniocha North Local Government Area in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Emeka Nwobi, who also is an alumnus of the college, charged all graduates of St. Anthony’s College to muster resources in developing their school.
Also in his remarks, the President of St. Anthony’s Old Boys Association (class of 1990), Dr. Henry Eluebo, said that the decision to remodel the assembly hall of the school was borne out of the desire to restore the dignity of their alma mater and give back to the society.
Highlights of the event was the unveiling of the new ultra modern assembly by the representative of the governor and also the presentation of awards to some old teachers and six best students from Junior Secondary Class One to Senior Secondary Class Three.
Also present at the occasion were the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Engr. Lawrence Ejiofor, Commissioner for Youth Development, Comrade Ifeanyi Egwunyenga, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Information, Mr. Paul Osahor, amongst other dignitaries.
