The Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa-led administration in Delta State has been accused of neglecting education in the Riverine Communities of the state.
The accusation is coming on the heels of a collapsed secondary school building housing the Junior to the senior secondary classes built by the military government in Obotebe Community in Burutu local government area of the state.
Residents of the community have cried out to the state government to urgently fix the collapsed six classrooms block to enable the students return to school.
According to some stakeholders, the school building was built since military administration and was due for replacement long ago.
According to sources, the collapsed building was meant for JSS1 to SS3, adding that since the collapse of the building students are now taking lessons in the community’s primary school.
Comrade Asiayei Enaibo who also posted on his Facebook timeline said relevant authorities and the state government have abandoned the school and community.
He said the delay in rebuilding the collapsed Obotebe secondary school was clear neglect of riverine education by the Delta state government and leaders representing the area in government.
He called on Rt. Hon. Julius Pondi, member representing Burutu Federal Constituency, Hon. Asupa Forteta, a member representing Burutu North Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA), committed to rebuilding the collapsed school structure without further delay.
