In a sweeping reform aimed at revitalizing the education sector, the Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has announced the immediate dissolution of all Area Education Officers and School Support Officers across the state’s 20 Local Government Areas.
The SUBEB Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mohammed Duguri, made the announcement during a meeting with Education Secretaries from the 20 LGAs, outlining the move as part of a broader strategy to overhaul monitoring and supervision systems within the state’s basic education framework.
According to a statement issued by the Board’s Public Relations Officer, Isah Mohammed Jungudo, the chairman disclosed that the dissolution also affects Arabic and Christian visiting teachers, Early Child Care Development and Education (ECCDE) supervisors, and library supervisors under the Local Education Authorities (LEAs).
Alhaji Duguri emphasized that the reforms are part of a strategic effort to enhance oversight, improve service delivery, and strengthen learning outcomes in public schools across the state.
“This dissolution is not punitive,” he said. “It is a critical part of our developmental strategy to reposition the education sector for better performance and accountability.”
He directed relevant departments within SUBEB and the LEAs to ensure a smooth transition, safeguard all official records, and maintain continuity in existing initiatives.
Going forward, only School Support Officers appointed through the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), SUBEB, and the LEAs will be officially recognized and deployed for the role.
Duguri revealed that new guidelines have been developed to standardize the selection process and ensure that only qualified and capable personnel are engaged.
“These guidelines will soon be circulated to all LEAs to guide the selection of new officers and promote consistency and professionalism in the support provided to our schools,” he added.
The SUBEB chairman further instructed all affected officers to immediately report to their respective Local Government Education Authority headquarters for documentation and reassessment.
