A new chapter in digital education unfolded in Delta State as the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), in collaboration with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), commissioned a state-of-the-art E-Learning Centre at Delta Model Technical College, Asaba.

The project, spearheaded by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, is part of a nationwide drive to promote digital literacy and empower young Nigerians with 21st-century skills.

The commissioning ceremony, held on Thursday, formed part of a national virtual event connecting ten newly completed Digital Learning Centres across the country, including those in Abia, Kano, Katsina, Lagos, Nasarawa, Ondo, Yobe, Zamfara, and Edo States.

In her virtual address, Senator Oluremi Tinubu commended NITDA for partnering with the Renewed Hope Initiative to advance the digital transformation agenda of the Federal Government.

“In the nearest future, every nook and cranny of our country will be digitalized. I officially commission these ten ICT centres across Nigeria,” she declared.

Each centre, including the Asaba facility, is equipped with 15 desktop computers, an interactive smart board, and full internet connectivity to enhance teaching, learning, and research in digital environments.

Representing the First Lady in Asaba, the Wife of the Delta State Governor and State RHI Coordinator, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, represented by Dr. Josephine Emu, described the project as a transformative investment in the future of Nigerian youth.

“In today’s world, digital skills are not optional. This e-learning centre is a beacon of opportunity, a gateway to prosperity where our students can dream bigger and prepare for a digital future,” she stated.

The Director-General of NITDA, Dr. Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, reaffirmed the Agency’s commitment to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, emphasizing its focus on human capital development and digital inclusion.

“Under President Tinubu’s leadership, we have established 236 ICT centres nationwide, with plans to expand to 592 by 2027.

“These hubs are designed to empower citizens, drive innovation, and build a sustainable digital economy,” he noted.

On his part, the Delta State Commissioner for Technical Education, Hon. Smart Ufoh, hailed the initiative as a reflection of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s commitment to promoting innovation and technology-driven education.

“This project embodies the government’s resolve to advance technical education and digital literacy as key enablers of economic growth,” he said, while appealing for the establishment of an additional computer hall to accommodate more students.

The Principal of Delta Model Technical College, Mrs. Violet Owuijaren, expressed profound appreciation to the First Lady, NITDA, and RHI, describing the donation as a “lasting investment in the future of Delta students.”

“This centre will serve as a hub for innovation, where learning meets technology. We are deeply honoured by this gesture,” she added.

A student representative, Chukwu Dumebi, also expressed gratitude on behalf of the students, noting that the facility would greatly enhance their learning experience and digital competence.

The event concluded with vibrant cultural performances and a spoken-word presentation by the students, celebrating education as the gateway to a brighter, technology-driven future.
