Ahead of the governorship election in Delta State scheduled for March, about five candidates are ready to slug it out including the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and its gubernatorial candidate, His Excellency, Olorogun Barr. Kenneth Gbagi OON, becoming a major force.
At Oginibo, the hometown of the candidate of the SDP, a renowned Criminologist and philanthropist, Olorogun Gbagi FNIM, where the Labour Party (LP), candidate Ken Pela, claimed he hails from with so much controversies, Indigenes and residents of the community said Gbagi, remains their only choice.
They said they have no knowledge of any other candidate from the community contesting the governorship election known to them order than Gbagi.
They said that the name of the Labour Party candidate, Ken Pela, is alien to them as they would only support and vote the former minister of state for education, whom God sent to wipe their tears.
Speaking on Tuesday January 17th 2023, while receiving free Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from the SDP governorship candidate at Falcon Bay Energy, in Oginibo, motorcycle and tricycle operators otherwise known as Okada and Keke riders, said Gbagi, remains the only one that could savage the State from further destruction.
One of the tricycle operators, Mr. David Umukoro, said: “Kenneth Gbagi is our next governor in Delta State. All Deltans should vote for him. He will develop the State and we know that he will do the yearnings of Deltans.
“All we know here, is Gbagi, the governorship candidate of SDP. We cannot change our minds now and vote for Ken Pela”.
Also, Ashe Michael, noted, “When it comes to philanthropic gestures, Gbagi, tops every other politician in the State. We have not seen anyone like Gbagi.
“He has been doing it, he is not doing it now because of election. We will support Gbagi, till the end in this forthcoming general election.
“We don’t know Ken Pela, Gbagi, is the only one we know going for the governorship election from this community”.
Another respondent, Timothy Jimmy Ighoyowho, hinted: “To be truthful to you, before now, he has been a very good man to the community. He loves everybody and we love him too.
“We hope and pray that he will be our next governor by the grace of God.
“He is educated and whatever he promised to do, he will always do it. All of us should vote for him”.
Mr. John Richard, an Okada rider who said he knew the former chairman of the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria, in the last eight said noted that he has been of great help to the community and the Ughievwen kingdom.
According to him, “Since I returned from Lagos in 2015, Gbagi, has been helping people. He ensures that those illegally arrested, are released. He must win, all of us will vote for him”.
Similarly, Solomon Niboro, said: “I will be very happy if God will put Kenneth Gbagi, in that position as our next governor”.
An erstwhile youth chairman of Oginibo community, Mr. Believe, who described the former chairman, Delta Development Property Authority +DDPA) as a father figure, said Gbagi has earned the respect and love of his people.
“Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi our Daddy has already given us full tank of fuel free if charge and we appreciate him.
“As the election is coming, he is the one that all of us will vote for and God will bless him. We are fully involved in his election and we will support him fully.
“We don’t know Ken Pela, the only person we know is Olorogun Kenneth Gbagi, that is the one we know and he is the one I will support”.
Mrs. Ojaigho, said God should reward Gbagi bountifully and give him his heart desires, saying “let us vote for him”.
Moses Polo, described Gbagi, as a helper just as he called on Deltans to vote massively for him.
Morrison Ovuakporacha, said: “Gbagi, is the only one that can deliver Delta State from the dungeon the present government has left it”.
